The Uzbekistan national team is still seeking its first appearance at the FIFA World Cup, but has steadily grown into one of Asia’s most competitive sides. Over the past two decades, Uzbekistan has come close to qualification multiple times, consistently finishing near the top in Asian qualifying campaigns. Their rise has been fueled by strong youth development and increasing international experience.
Although they lack World Cup history, Uzbekistan has built a reputation for discipline, tactical organization, and technical improvement. Their performances in continental competitions, including solid runs in the AFC Asian Cup, highlight a team that is no longer an outsider but a legitimate contender on the global stage.
Group K
Group K presents a challenging but intriguing mix:
- Portugal enters as the favorite with elite talent and experience.
- Colombia brings flair, creativity, and attacking strength.
- DR Congo offers physicality and unpredictability.
For Uzbekistan, this group represents a major opportunity to make a statement on the world stage. If they can stay organized and take advantage of key moments, they have the potential to compete closely and possibly emerge as one of the tournament’s surprise teams.
