The Tunisia national football team, nicknamed the Carthage Eagles, is one of Africa’s consistent football sides with a proud international history. They first competed at the FIFA World Cup in 1978, where they made history as the first African team to win a World Cup match by defeating Mexico 3–1.

Tunisia’s World Cup participation has grown over time; they’ve now qualified for seven editions — in 1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018, 2022, and 2026 — and have been a regular presence in recent decades.

Although they’ve never yet progressed beyond the group stage at a World Cup, the team is known for its disciplined style and strong defensive play.

In the 2026 qualifying campaign, Tunisia stood out by becoming one of the few teams to complete qualification without conceding a goal, finishing top of CAF Group H with a formidable defensive record.

Group Stage – Group F

Tunisia has been placed into Group F, where they will compete against:

  • Netherlands – European football heavyweight

  • Japan – Asian power and regular World Cup competitor

  • Sweden – Known for their physical play, organization, and consistent competitiveness on the World Cup stage.

This group presents a blend of tactical styles and offers Tunisia a chance to test itself against strong international competition.
